Leaving boat in water all winter?

Can a boat be left docked in water on Lake Hartwell for entire winter or is it advisable to remove due to Temps etc. Have a Merc 3.0 I/O. Thanks

I pull mine out and pour RV anti-freeze into the engine. There will be water in the head and water jacket if left in the lake. It is just not worth taking a chance. I leave my outboard in the lake as I can tilt the motor and hope it drains. I tilt it all the way up and then lower to the lowest tilt as it seems to always drain. The foot will be under water and does not freeze.

I recognize I am way late to this thread but I agree, especially with some of the cold we have had.... it's best to take it out of the water. open up the block drain plug and take the cooling hose off and pour antifreeze into it until it starts to flow out of the drain plug. You will be happy you did.
