Fishing with my children this weekend...

I will likely be taking my 3 year old and 5 year old to the lake some this holiday weekend and my 5 year old may even bring a friend along for the day. I was just wondering if the Bream spawn is over or is it still ongoing? I know the full moon in May (the 14th this year) is suppose to be peak of the Bream spawn per the old timers I use to fish with. How is bream fishing been lately? Has anybody been targeting them? If so general info about how you have been doing and if you have been using worms, nightcrawlers or crickets would be much appreciated. We really just want to get out and enjoy the lake and catch some fish so if you would suggest targeting crappie or catfish instead please let me know that as well. Thanks.

Just figured I would follow up and say we had a great day at grandpa's fishing from the dock. The bream were really active and we couldn't keep a float up very long if there was a worm on the hook. We caught fish after fish, no enormous ones but that wasn't ever the point the boys had a blast and really enjoyed it. Once I download pictures off our camera I will post up some of their glorious catch.

Ok little help gran daughters coming to lake this weekend need to know if anyone been catching any bluegill. Was wondering if they are on banks yet .

I don't know about the bluegills on the lake, but they were sure bedding this week on a local pond in shallow water. I realize pond and lake fishing are two different animals but the fishing can sometimes be related. We caught huge bluegills and they were very eager to bite. The crappie are definitely on the banks at Hartwell. I'm sure the grands would enjoy that too. Good luck and enjoy!

@oldranger did you have any luck with mission bluegill? I have some grandchildren coming in and would like more than anything to get them out and do some catching size doesn't really matter it's all about keeping their attention. Any feedback is welcome.

Had the granddaughters down sat. Fish for bream back of cove found them in abundance they are in spawn . Red wigglers and crickets
